The year 2025 will be remembered as a pivotal and highly successful year in Pakistan’s diplomatic history, showcasing the country’s rapid progress on both economic and international fronts. Following a prolonged period of global uncertainty, Pakistan not only strengthened its international relations but also secured strategic partnerships, emerging as a reliable partner and respected voice on key global issues.
According to Khalid Taimoor Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Center for Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), the nation’s diplomatic and strategic gains were driven by coordinated efforts of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, President Arif Ali Zardari, Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Collectively, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership conducted 71 foreign visits in 2025 to enhance bilateral relations with major global and regional powers.
The year witnessed landmark foreign visits from leaders including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and others. These visits resulted in numerous bilateral agreements, memorandums of understanding, and increased trade and investment commitments, including agreements in defense, energy, technology, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Pakistan also played a proactive role in regional and global diplomacy, addressing crises such as the Gaza conflict and the Kashmir issue. It maintained a principled stance in forums including the United Nations, advocating for peace, human rights, and regional stability. The country successfully countered misinformation and propaganda against it, reinforcing its image as a responsible and strategic regional power.
Additionally, Pakistan strengthened its strategic partnership with China through CPEC 2.0, deepened defense and investment ties with Saudi Arabia, and cultivated multilateral cooperation across the Middle East, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. On the security front, Pakistan’s coordinated diplomacy and military preparedness enhanced its regional influence and global credibility.
2025 also saw Pakistan emerge as a middle power capable of shaping regional dynamics, enhancing trade, investment, and strategic engagement while gaining respect on the international stage. The successes of 2025 established a strong foundation of confidence, partnership, and global alignment, affirming that Pakistan’s diplomatic voice is heard and respected worldwide.
