Islamabad (Staff Reporter):

The first Super Moon of the year 2026 will be visible tonight, according to the spokesperson of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).The spokesperson said the Super Moon is traditionally known as the Wolf Moon. The last Super Moon in the previous series appeared on the horizon in October 2025. This time, the celestial event will coincide with the peak of the Quadrantid meteor shower, adding to the astronomical spectacle.

SUPARCO stated that the Super Moon will rise in Pakistan at 5:51 pm, with lunar illumination reaching up to 99.8 percent. The phenomenon will be visible on January 3 and 4.According to the spokesperson, the distance between the Earth and the Moon will be approximately 362,000 kilometers. As a result, the Moon is expected to appear 6 to 7 percent larger and about 10 percent brighter than an average full moon.

SUPARCO further noted that the next Super Moon after this event will be visible toward the end of the year in November 2026.
