Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace, development, inclusion, and constitutional rights for the people of Balochistan, highlighting the province’s strategic, economic, and cultural importance. He spoke on Friday at the National Workshop Balochistan, held at the President’s House with participation from educators, students, and officials from various institutions across the province.
Gilani noted that Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, plays a pivotal role in regional connectivity, linking South Asia with Central Asia and the Middle East. He said the province’s coastline, natural resources, and strategic location make it central to Pakistan’s economic growth and national security. Highlighting the importance of youth empowerment, he urged that education, skills development, and employment opportunities be expanded to ensure sustainable peace and inclusive development.
Referring to the historic “Aghaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan” package, Gilani described it as a landmark initiative aimed at restoring trust between the federal government and the province, promoting fiscal autonomy, fair distribution of resources, and better representation of Baloch youth in federal institutions. He also praised key development projects such as Reko Diq, CPEC, and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for their potential to drive economic growth and investor confidence while prioritizing local benefits.
The Senate Chairman stressed that addressing challenges posed by climate change, floods, and natural disasters requires long-term planning and continuous support, and he lauded the resilience and steadfastness of Balochistan’s people. He highlighted that the province’s youth are its most valuable asset and must be provided opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national development and cohesion.
Gilani concluded by urging workshop participants to respect diversity, uphold constitutional values, and operate within democratic frameworks. He described the workshop as a platform to enhance informed leadership, promote national unity, and foster constructive dialogue on provincial and national issues
