Political Party JI Islamabad Amir Warns of Protest if Local Government Elections Are Delayed

Islamabad (Staff Reporter):
Ameer political party Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad, Nasrullah Randhawa, has accused the government of conspiring to deprive the people of Islamabad of their democratic rights by delaying local government elections.

Addressing a protest demonstration, Ameer political party Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad, Nasrullah Randhawa said the government fears a certain defeat in the upcoming local body elections, which is why attempts are being made to postpone them. He termed any delay in local government polls as hostility toward both the public and the capital city.

He alleged that a single bureaucrat has been given unchecked authority over Islamabad’s affairs, while residents continue to suffer from serious issues including education, healthcare, sewerage, clean drinking water, traffic congestion, and electricity shortages. Randhawa claimed that nearly 50 percent of Islamabad’s population lacks access to basic facilities and that even residents of developed sectors remain deprived.

Ameer political party Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad, Nasrullah Randhawapointed out that Islamabad generates approximately Rs1,200 billion in taxes annually but does not receive its due share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. He said that constitutionally, Islamabad holds the status of a province and should therefore be treated accordingly.

Criticizing the Capital Development Authority (CDA), he alleged that it has turned into a “Corruption Development Authority.” Randhawa further stated that once an election schedule has been announced, amendments to the local government act are legally impermissible.

He warned that if local government elections are postponed, Political Party Jamaat-e-Islami would consider the Election Commission part of the conspiracy and would take action at every level to resist the move.
