Student Attempts Suicide Amid Rising Protests at University of Lahore Over Fees and Faculty Conduct

Lahore (Bureau Report):

The University of Lahore is facing growing unrest as multiple students have attempted suicide amid protests over high fees and the behavior of faculty members. Recently, a female student, Fatima, jumped from the second floor of a university building in distress but was rescued in time. She was immediately transferred to a hospital in critical condition.

This incident follows a previous case in which a male student reportedly ended his life after being upset with a teacher’s conduct and being removed from class over unpaid fees. Police confirmed that both incidents occurred within the same university campus, raising serious concerns about student welfare.

According to authorities, the female student is 21 years old, enrolled in the D-Pharm program, and hails from Narang Mandi, Sheikhupura District. Following her suicide attempt, the university administration closed the campus temporarily.

Students at the university have staged strong protests, holding the administration responsible for these tragic events. They described the faculty and administrative behavior as intolerable and have demanded intervention from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Authorities and police have initiated investigations into both cases, while calls for urgent action to address student grievances continue to grow.
