Lahore (Bureau Report):
Preparations are underway to file the first case in the Punjab Defamation Court, as Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has formally announced legal action against Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Moeen Qureshi, over what she termed defamatory and false allegations.
Speaking to the media, Azma Bukhari said that baseless, false, and character-assassinating allegations had been leveled against her, and she would not let them go unanswered. She stated that Moeen Qureshi had alleged that journalists who question the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are her “paid employees,” a remark she described as highly offensive and insulting.
The Information Minister rejected the allegations as unfounded and defamatory, stressing that labeling journalists as personal employees is an insult to the journalistic profession. She said the statement went beyond political disagreement and clearly amounted to defamation.
Azma Bukhari announced that she would take the matter to the Defamation Court, asserting that it would now be up to the court to determine the truth and falsehood of the claims. She reaffirmed her commitment to defending her reputation through legal means and setting a precedent for accountability in public discourse.
