Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced compensation of Rs10 million for each person who lost their life in the fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi. He made the announcement while addressing a press conference.
The chief minister said that 15 bodies have so far been recovered from Gul Plaza. He added that 22 people sustained minor injuries and have returned to their homes, while 65 individuals remain missing. A total of 80 people were affected by the incident.
Murad Ali Shah stated that the tragic incident occurred two days ago and noted that almost everyone in Karachi has visited Gul Plaza at some point. He said the fire broke out at around 10:15 pm, but the exact cause has not yet been determined, though it may have been caused by a short circuit.
He further said that around 100 firefighters from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and 100 firefighters from Rescue 1122 participated in the operation. Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Deputy Mayor Salman, and the chief minister himself were present at the site. He added that the Pakistan Navy and the Civil Aviation Authority also assisted in the rescue efforts.
