Mobile Companies Hike Data Package Prices, Burdening Consumers as PTA Remains Silent

Islamabad (Ehsan Bukhari Special Reporter):
Mobile network companies have continuously increased the prices of their data packages, creating difficulties for consumers. According to sources, Moblink company raised the price of its “Monthly X-Plus” package by Rs. 200 within a month. This package was available for Rs. 275 two and a half years ago, but the company has steadily increased the prices, and it now costs Rs. 2,800 per month. Similarly, other mobile companies are also hiking their data package rates, emptying the pockets of consumers.

However, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials have remained completely silent on this issue. It is also a matter of concern for the Competition Commission, as mobile companies are raising rates at their discretion across the country. Capital News Point contacted the PTA PRO and informed them that the “Jaiz” company’s Monthly X-Plus package was priced at Rs. 2,600 per month last month, but it was increased by Rs. 200 in January. The PTA PRO, however, refrained from commenting on the matter.

Similarly, when contacted, the PRO of “Jaiz” company also declined to provide any explanation for the price increase. Citizens have expressed that due to the actions of mobile companies, digital services have become expensive and increasingly unaffordable.
