Lahore (Bureau Report):
President of Pakistan’s spokesperson, Murtaza Solangi, stated that the heritage from the era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh reflects local intelligence and craftsmanship. He called the organization of the exhibition a major achievement by Dr. Nadra and Dr. Murtaza Taj. These remarks were made during his address at the ninth Think Fest (Afkar-e-Taza) held at the Lahore Arts Council, Alhamra.
Solangi said that the antiques displayed in the exhibition are masterpieces of local skill and are not looted treasures but living examples of indigenous craftsmanship.
He highlighted that the skills of Punjab’s artisans represent historical heritage, with weapons, coins, jewelry, and carriages all serving as living examples of local craftsmanship. Solangi added that while he would have preferred to speak in Punjabi, some attendees might not understand Urdu or Punjabi.
He emphasized that it is impossible to truly understand history without seeing the Maharaja Ranjit Singh exhibition. He noted that Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s era was relatively secular, with people of other religions holding important positions. Beyond the historical artifacts, the governance model of that era is worth studying.
Solangi concluded that the exhibition organized by Dr. Nadra and Dr. Murtaza Taj is a significant accomplishment, as it facilitates understanding of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s reign and especially helps young people appreciate and learn history.
