Pakistan Railways Achieves Historic Revenue Milestone of Rs. 93 Billion in FY 2024–25: Minister Hanif Abbasi

Federal Minister for Railways, Mohammad Hanif Abbasi, announced that Pakistan Railways has recorded the highest revenue in its 78-year history, earning Rs. 93 billion in the fiscal year 2024–25.

Breaking down the revenue streams, Rs. 47.5 billion came from passenger trains, while the freight sector generated Rs. 31.5 billion. Additionally, military traffic contributed Rs. 1.5 billion, coaching services brought in Rs. 3 billion, and miscellaneous sources accounted for Rs. 9.5 billion.

This marks a significant increase compared to the previous fiscal year’s total revenue of Rs. 88 billion.

Among the passenger service divisions, Karachi Division led the way, generating Rs. 14.75 billion, followed by Lahore with over Rs. 11.25 billion. The Railway Headquarters and Multan Division earned Rs. 5.25 billion and Rs. 5 billion, respectively. Sukkur generated Rs. 4.8 billion, Rawalpindi Rs. 4.7 billion, Peshawar Rs. 1.25 billion, and Quetta Rs. 520 million.

In the freight sector, Karachi dominated with Rs. 28 billion, while Multan contributed Rs. 1 billion. Other freight revenues included Lahore (Rs. 830 million), Peshawar (Rs. 770 million), Rawalpindi (Rs. 310 million), Sukkur (Rs. 280 million), and Quetta (Rs. 100 million).

Minister Abbasi commended the dedicated railway workforce for their efforts under limited resources and emphasized the goal to achieve 70% of total revenue from freight operations next year. He paid tribute to the railway workers, calling them the “true backbone of the organization,” whose commitment and hard work have laid the foundation for this financial achievement.
