Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has stated that all those responsible for and facilitating the May 9 incidents will be brought to justice under the law. Speaking to journalists on Thursday, he emphasized the need for full implementation of the 14-point National Action Plan to ensure national security and stability.
Referring to a recent article by senior journalist Suhail Warraich, the DG ISPR clarified that the event mentioned took place in Brussels where hundreds of people took pictures with a retired Field Marshal. “No interview was given on behalf of the Army Chief, nor was there any reference to the PTI or apology. This was a personal publicity stunt by the journalist,” he asserted.
General Ahmed Sharif condemned the spread of misinformation, particularly from individuals who should demonstrate responsibility. “It is unfortunate that even senior journalists fail to uphold journalistic integrity,” he remarked.
He further noted that Pakistan is a country capable of reshaping the region’s destiny, which is why it frequently becomes a target of hostile forces. “India believed that by using its terrorist proxies and facilitators, it could discredit the Pakistan Army. However, when Pakistan responded with full force, it was India and its proxies that ended up discredited,” he said.
He elaborated on coordinated attacks planned by adversaries. “They thought a simultaneous assault from India and their proxies — Fitna-tul-Khawarij and Fitna-tul-Hindustan — would overwhelm us. But Pakistan confronted both threats head-on and emerged strong,” he added.
General Sharif stressed that the decision made by all political parties in 2014 to eliminate illegal armed groups has yet to be fully implemented. “When action is taken against illegal Afghan residents involved in crimes, some political and criminal elements within our country raise objections,” he said.
He reiterated the urgent need for the complete enforcement of the National Action Plan, stating that the military, police, and other law enforcement agencies are filling the governance vacuum with daily sacrifices, often at the cost of their own blood.
“Young people are the backbone of this nation. They must understand the legacy and history of our ideological state,” he concluded, calling on the youth to uphold national values and resist misinformation campaigns targeting state institutions.
