In line with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to combat dengue, a special meeting was held at WASA Rawalpindi under the chairmanship of Managing Director WASA, Muhammad Saleem Ashraf, to review the ongoing dengue prevention measures and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The meeting was attended by all Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and Sub-Engineers. During the session, a detailed review of the steps taken by WASA staff for dengue control was conducted.
MD WASA informed participants that this year, special measures are being implemented to tackle dengue. Dedicated teams have been formed that conduct daily inspections of tube wells and filtration plants to destroy dengue larvae, aiming to minimize the harmful effects of the disease.

He emphasized that WASA Rawalpindi is a key institution in the fight against dengue, with its core responsibilities including the drainage of stagnant water, resolving dengue DVRs, and monitoring dengue hotspots effectively.
Addressing the officers and staff, MD WASA remarked that dengue is a national issue and requires collective efforts to eliminate. He stressed that all WASA facilities, including the head office and field offices, must ensure special cleanliness drives, and urged the staff to extend this awareness to their homes and neighborhoods as well.
He further highlighted that WASA Rawalpindi is actively participating in the dengue awareness campaign. Posters, banners, and hoardings have been displayed in all WASA offices, while pamphlets and brochures are being distributed to educate the public.
MD WASA directed all field officers and staff to ensure immediate drainage of stagnant water and to promptly address all related complaints. He also issued special instructions to the Director Water Supply to conduct field visits and carry out strict monitoring. He warned that negligence by any officer or staff would not be tolerated and will lead to strict action.
Appealing to the public, the MD urged citizens to support the government’s anti-dengue campaign by eliminating mosquito breeding grounds. “Dengue can only be controlled through the joint efforts of all stakeholders,” he said, “and we can protect our society from this deadly disease.”
He concluded by reaffirming WASA’s commitment, stating that the organization will utilize all its resources to protect citizens from dengue and will not tolerate any form of negligence in this regard.
