The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) convened a high-level consultative session to deliberate on Time-of-Use (TOU) tariff, net metering, and mini/micro off-grid energy solutions. The session focused on the future of solar energy and off-grid innovations as part of efforts to enhance sustainability in Pakistan’s power sector.
According to a statement issued by NEPRA, the session was inaugurated by Member (Technical) Rafiq Ahmed Shaikh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Member Maqsood Anwar. Representatives from all DISCOs, K-Electric, ISMO, CPPA-G, and NGC actively participated.
The statement highlighted that the heads of all DISCOs appreciated NEPRA’s initiatives and regarded the Terms of Reference (TORs) as comprehensive. However, some stakeholders proposed that the off-grid study be limited to specific DISCOs. Based on these suggestions, NEPRA is now considering conducting a nationwide study on TOU tariff timings.
NEPRA has instructed stakeholders to submit their final feedback and data within seven days. Once the final TORs are approved, NEPRA will direct the DISCOs to hire consultants and carry out detailed studies accordingly.
The primary objective of the session was to find sustainable and practical solutions to challenges facing the power sector, particularly in the context of renewable energy adoption and off-grid electrification.
