PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Comprehensive Climate Policy to Tackle Monsoon Impacts

In response to the devastating effects of climate change and the ongoing monsoon-related challenges, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the preparation of an effective and unified climate policy to ensure timely and coordinated action across the country.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the premier has decided to convene a high-level meeting immediately after the current emergency situation subsides. The meeting will include the chief ministers of all four provinces, as well as heads of key relevant institutions. The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan will also be invited to participate.

A working paper for this policy will be shared with all provincial governments to facilitate the creation of a joint strategy based on mutual input and collaboration.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the urgent need for building water reservoirs and improving water management across the country, including in AJK and GB. He stated that all such projects would be planned through consultations and consensus among the provinces.

“Climate change is a reality,” the Prime Minister said. “Only through effective preparedness can we minimize the damage caused by natural disasters. All provinces, including AJK, GB, and the federal government, must work together to protect people from the adverse effects of climate change. This is a national issue that requires united action.”
