Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian have expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory in Pakistan-Iran relations and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State summit.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and senior federal ministers.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment to its historic and brotherly relationship with neighboring Iran, emphasizing the deep-rooted ties based on shared history, cultural heritage, and faith. Both leaders reviewed the status of bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction over the encouraging developments in various areas.
President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s consistent support for Iran and reiterated Iran’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Prime Minister Shehbaz also referred to the Iranian President’s scheduled visit to Pakistan in August 2025, expressing hope that the visit would further deepen and strengthen ties between the two countries. He noted that the people of Pakistan warmly welcomed the recent visit of the Iranian President.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of enhancing political and economic ties between the two friendly nations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Iran. He stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable tools for reducing tensions and ensuring lasting regional stability.
President Pezeshkian expressed heartfelt condolences over the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by recent floods in various parts of Pakistan. He conveyed that the Iranian government and people stand in full solidarity with Pakistan during this time of hardship.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders agreeing to continue working closely to further advance bilateral cooperation and contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
