President Asif Ali Zardari has affirmed that access to information is a fundamental and democratic right of every citizen. He emphasized that the free flow of information promotes transparency, accountability, and good governance.

In a statement issued by the President’s Office on Sunday, marking the International Day for Access to Information, President Zardari highlighted the challenges posed by misinformation and fake news in today’s era. He said, “Distorting the truth through false information and fake news is one of the major challenges of our time. The spread of fake news undermines national unity and erodes public trust in institutions.”

The President underscored the importance of responsible reporting and the provision of accurate information as essential for democratic stability. He said that timely and accurate access to information empowers citizens.

President Zardari also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information on social media platforms. “An informed society is the foundation for transparency, development, and justice,” he said.

He urged all institutions to strengthen the access to information system to make it more effective and reliable for the benefit of the people.
