Pakistan and Malaysia have signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors including education, halal certification, tourism, and anti-corruption. The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office, Perdana Putra Complex, during the official visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
Following delegation-level talks between Prime Ministers Shehbaz Sharif and Anwar Ibrahim, the MoUs were signed in a formal ceremony attended by senior officials from both countries.
The first MoU was signed between the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) of Malaysia and Pakistan’s Foreign Service Academy to promote cooperation in diplomatic training. The documents were exchanged by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hassan.
An MoU on cooperation in higher education was signed between the two governments, with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and Malaysia’s Minister for Higher Education Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir exchanging documents.

To promote tourism, another MoU was inked between Pakistan and Malaysia, with Malaysia’s Tourism Minister Tiung King Sing and Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar exchanging the relevant documents.
In the halal certification sector, a separate MoU was signed, with Malaysia’s Minister for Religious Affairs Dr. Haji Mohamad Naeem Bin Haji Mokhtar and Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan conducting the exchange.
Both countries also committed to combating corruption through a MoU signed between the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chairman Azam Bin Baki and Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Deputy Chairman Sohail Nasir.
The sixth MoU focuses on promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), fostering collaboration between Pakistan’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and Malaysia’s Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation. The documents were exchanged by Malaysia SME Corporation CEO Rizal Bin Dato’ Nain and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi.
These agreements mark a significant step toward strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia across multiple important sectors.
