Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has been awarded an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Leadership and Governance by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), in recognition of his exceptional leadership and contributions to the development and progress of Pakistan.
A special convocation ceremony was held on Tuesday at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization, IIUM’s Kuala Lumpur campus. The honorary degree was conferred upon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by Her Majesty Tengku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, Queen of the Malaysian state of Pahang and the Constitutional Head of IIUM.
The event was attended by a high-level delegation from Pakistan, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi. Also present were Malaysian Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, IIUM President Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain, Rector Professor Osman Bakar, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Syed Ahsan Raza Shah.
The honorary doctorate recognizes Prime Minister Sharif’s commitment to public service, governance reforms, infrastructure development, and his efforts to strengthen democratic institutions in Pakistan. The award also highlights the deepening ties between Pakistan and Malaysia, particularly in the fields of education, leadership, and international cooperation.
