A Dubai misdemeanour court has fined a 60-year-old European man AED 1,000 (approximately PKR 76,551) for slapping a two-year-old boy in a shopping mall.

According to reports, the child’s father filed a complaint with the police stating that he heard his son crying and rushed to the mall’s hall, where the child pointed toward the man who allegedly assaulted him. The father claimed that upon discreetly observing the situation, he witnessed the same man approach the child again and slap him, causing the child to fall and hit a wall. The incident resulted in minor injuries to the child.

In court, the accused denied the allegations, claiming he was merely trying to separate his daughter from the boy, who, according to him, was repeatedly bothering her. He insisted that the incident was unintentional and also alleged that the boy’s father had later threatened and pushed him.

After reviewing the arguments and evidence, including a medical report that showed no significant physical injuries, the court ruled that the absence of visible wounds does not negate the occurrence of physical assault. The court found that the act of hitting the child was deliberate and constituted physical abuse under the law.

Based on these findings, the court imposed a fine of AED 1,000 on the accused.
