ISLAMABAD (Staff Reporter)

The second phase of the auction of old and non-operational government-owned power plants is underway in Islamabad. In this round, three major power plants with a combined generation capacity of 2,362 megawatts are being offered for sale.

The power plants up for auction include:

  • Jamshoro Thermal Power Station (880 MW)
  • Muzaffargarh Thermal Power Station (1,350 MW)
  • Faisalabad Steam Power Station (132 MW)

The combined reserve price for these plants has been set at Rs. 26.62 billion.

This auction is part of the Government of Pakistan’s broader energy sector reform agenda, being carried out in line with decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, directives from the Prime Minister, and the guidelines of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division). The process is being conducted with full transparency.

The auction event is taking place at the office of GENCO Holding Company Limited, located in the OPF Building, G-5/2, Islamabad, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

It is worth noting that in the first phase of the auction, seven old thermal power plants were successfully sold, generating bids of over Rs. 9 billion, exceeding their reserve prices.

The second phase of this auction marks not only a strategic move towards better utilization of financial resources but also aims to attract new investments in the energy sector. Bidders, media personnel, and relevant stakeholders have been invited to attend the event to ensure full transparency
